Title: Rocket Science Word Count:
Genre: Contemporary Gay Romance
Blurb:Relationships aren’t rocket science. If they were, I might stand a chance of figuring one out.
Saying I’ve had a crush on my best friend’s older brother, Pax, most of my life is like saying the big bang was just an explosion. It’s true, but I’m not sure that quite captures the essence of its true enormity.
I know he’s only hanging out with me because I’m new in town and getting my PhD doesn’t leave me with much time to make friends. And even if it did, my strength is mathematics, not friend-making. What I don’t understand is why he kissed me… why he seems to want to keep kissing me. I don’t think my advanced physics knowledge is going to help me figure this one out. But I think for once I’m okay with not knowing, as long as Pax and I don’t know together.
He’s still the awkward Nerdlet I remember…he’s also probably the cutest, most tempting man I’ve laid eyes on. I know I should keep my hands off him, but this thing between us is like a force of nature. I want to be his first everything. He says we’re nothing more than atoms crashing into each other. I’m no scientist but I don’t think either of us are braced for the explosion.
**** Rocket Science is a stand-alone MM romance featuring an inexperienced nerd, a cocky player, and a satisfying HEA
My Review: Rocket scientist in training Elijah just moved to California to do his PhD at the university of Caltech. He is very introverted and gets really anxious in social situations. This is the first time going to school without his best friend and protector Theo by his side. Theo has enlisted the help of his hunky brother Pax to show Elijah around. Remembering the quirky little nerd he always thought was funny as a kid, pushes Pax to agree. He sets up a night out with Elijah. He is totally surprised when the adorkable guy who just walked in is none other than his brother’s childhood friend. Elijah can’t believe the guy who he had a crush on in his teens could possibly get any hotter. Damn was he wrong, Pax is hotter than ever showing off his tatted up arms under his dress shirts.
They get along great after Pax plies Elijah with some alcohol which certainly loosens him up. They banter about Star Wars causing Pax to reminisce about his hidden geeky side. He thoroughly enjoyed himself and decides to bring over hangover breakfast for Elijah. This is the beginning of something fresh and new for both of them. Both find themselves enjoying their renewed friendship. It doesn’t take long for Pax to make the first move with an exploratory kiss. This opens the door for Elijah who attacks with a voracious appetite. Having never been kissed before causes Elijah to be a mixture of innocence and heat all rolled in one. This is an intense pull for Pax and before they know it, they culminate in a hot frottage session. By the time they finish and Elijah is fast asleep, Pax already knows he’s made a mistake.
Based on prior experience Pax knows he isn’t boyfriend material. He knows someone as innocent as Elijah deserves so much more than him. Pax breaks it down gently, but Elijah is definitely hurt. His insecurities make him feel at fault. Things become strained between them. Surprisingly, it’s Pax who breaks the ice when he can’t seem to stay away from Elijah. They fall into a no strings attached arrangement that works for both of them. Everything is fun and exciting for both men. Pax sees a new side to hooking up and starts feeling emotions he’s never felt before. Their arrangement sees them through Thanksgiving and Christmas. Pax knows for sure that he has fallen in love with his ‘Nerdlet’.After one of their intense lovemaking sessions that’s always earth-shattering, Pax makes a declaration.
Not knowing how to respond, Elijah pretends to be asleep.
Pax’ vulnerability shines clear through when he goes to see Elijah after ghosting him for a week. He gets straight to the point confessing to Elijah that he would make a horrible boyfriend. Already forewarned with advice from his friend Alex, Elijah has made up his mind to be vulnerable with Pax and not let him go. After telling Pax how much he is in love with him, they get down and dirty to have some hot makeup sex. They both realize they are ready to traverse the tides of a relationship together. The love that they feel for each other is out of this world. Pax asks Elijah to move in with him right away. Four years down the road finds him getting down on one knee asking his shy Nerdlet to marry him. I loved, loved, loved this one. I give this my ratings of 5 – bring out the vibrators.
