Genre : Contemporary Gay Romance
Blurb : Eighteen-year-old Scott Keating knows a whole world exists beyond his parents’ strict control, but until he gains access to the World Wide Web, he really has no idea what’s out there. In a chat room, Scott meets “JeffUK.” Jeff loves and understands him, and when he offers to bring Scott to the UK, Scott seizes his chance to escape his humdrum life and see the world. But when his plane touches down and Jeff isn’t there, panic sets in.
Collars & Cuffs favorite barman and Dom-in-training, Ben Winters, drops his sister off at the airport and finds a lost, anxious Scott. Hearing Scott’s story sets off alarm bells, along with his protective instincts. Taking pity on the naïve boy, Ben offers him a place to crash and invites him to Collars & Cuffs, hoping his bosses will know how to help. Scott dreams of belonging to someone, heart and soul. Ben longs for a sub of his own. And neither man sees what’s right under his nose.
My Review : Scott is a lonely teenager who is constantly put down by his parents. They look at him as a disappointment and deny his sexuality. Scott feels so alone and cut off from the world, he meets Jeff online and he fills a void in Scott’s life for companionship. Scott is easily susceptible to Jeff ‘s charms and quickly falls head over heels for him. Shortly after , Jeff sends Scott a plane ticket to come live with him in Manchester. Scott is a little naive, gullible and desperate enough to accept this offer of ‘freedom’.
When Scott arrives at the airport on the other side of the pond, he waits anxiously for Jeff for a few hours. Pretty soon it becomes clear that Jeff has stood up Scott. A handsome passersby Ben sees the lost look on Scott’s face. He intervenes and all his protective instincts are brought out by Scott. Ben takes Scott to a hotel room after speaking on the phone with his boss Leo who has charged the room in his name. They are able to give Scott a peaceful night’s rest. The next day they go to the BDSM club Collars & Cuffs where Ben is a bartender. Ben’s two bosses Leo and Thomas try to help Scott out of his current situation which they suspect might have been orchestrated by an Internet predator.
They all come to the decision to place Scott with Ben for the time being until they can figure out other living arrangements. There is only one problem, Ben is not as affluent as Leo and Thomas, and he is too proud to accept financial help from them. This is an issue from the very beginning and poses a problem for Scott’s and Ben’s relationship. It is clear to see that Scott is submissive and he longs to be owned by a master who can take care of him.
Scott takes care of Ben by taking care of his home and cooking delicious vegetarian meals. When Scott is introduced to the other subs Alex and Peter, he immediately forms a bond with them. He is intrigued by the relationship that they have with their Doms Leo and Thomas. Scott becomes really interested in the lifestyle and his interest is piqued. His interest skyrockets when he stumbles upon some homemade sex tapes of Ben dominating a young man in a harness. Ben’s dirty talk about fucking his sub in public really turns him on. Scott realizes that he wants Ben to be his Dom. He petitions Leo to help in finding him a Dom.
Ben is interested but he keeps waffling with indecision, due to all his other financial burdens. He knows that as much as he wants Scott, he doesn’t feel it’s fair if he can’t take care of all his ‘ boy’s’ financial needs. Although he is constantly shown the error of his ways when he allows his boy to slip through his fingers twice, Ben remains too stubborn and proud to take Leo’s money.
Scott is happy for a time and gifts his virginity publicly to his master Ben on his birthday. They are extremely happy after leaving their scene of public exhibition. However, that bliss is torn to shreds when Ben gets run over by a drunk driver. Scott is beside himself with grief and he is desperately hopes that Ben will pull through unscathed. Ben pulls through but his legs are broken and he is bruised. This results in him taking time off of work, and seeing as how he doesn’t have any disposable income, this pushes him to the decision to give Scott up yet again.
Poor Scott is constantly left broken hearted by Ben , and his love for his master never wavers. As much as I like Ben I think he is way too fickle snd buckles under financial pressure. Ben needs to learn a sense of family that is provided by Leo and Thomas at the club and he needs to learn how to accept help graciously. Ben was a little bit too rigid in his pride to the detriment of Scott’s feelings of self worth. Overall , I really enjoyed this and I look forward to reading the next in the series. I give this my ratings of 4 – lose the underwear.
