Collars & Cuffs 2: Trusting Thomas by K.C. Wells

Title : Trusting Thomas                Word Count :95,330

Genre : Contemporary Gay Romance

Blurb : Christmas is a time for goodwill to all, but Collars and Cuffs co-owner Thomas Williams receives an unexpected gift that chills him to the bone. A Dom from another Manchester club asks Thomas for his help rescuing an abused submissive, Peter Nicholson. Thomas takes in the young man as a favor to a friend, offering space and time to heal, but he makes it clear he’s never had a sub and doesn’t want one.

Peter finds Thomas’s home calm and peaceful, but his past has left him unwilling to trust another Dom. When Thomas doesn’t behave as Peter expects, Peter’s nightmares begin to fade, and he decides he’d like to learn more about D/s life. A well-known trainer of submissives, Thomas begins to teach Peter, but as the new submissive opens up to him, Thomas finds he cares more for Peter than he should. Just as he decides it’s time to find a permanent Dom for Peter, they discover Peter’s tormentor is still very much a threat. With their lives in danger, Thomas can’t deny his feelings for Peter any longer. The question now becomes, can Peter make it out of the lions’ den alive, so that Thomas can tell his boy that he loves him?

My Review :  Peter has been used and abused by his very first Dom. His innocence is stolen and his treatment over a four year period has him questioning the lifestyle he has chosen  to devout his life to. He has been through horrendous acts perpetrated by his Dom and his unsavoury colleagues. For the first time in his life he was given a choice and it was the greatest act that could have inspired his trust. After experiencing the horrors at the hands of his Dom, sex and pain are indelibly linked in Peter’s mind. Thomas, as his new Dom had to retrain him on how the life of a sub should actually be. Thomas realizes that he needs to show Peter the beauty and joys of serving a true Dom. Thomas has to show Peter the pleasures of submitting and playing during sex.  Thomas wasn’t able to follow the natural course of action he would normally in training a sub. Thomas had to simplify sex in a way going back to the basics and he had to incorporate pain free scenes. Peter had enough pain  to last a lifetime from his other Dom who was a cruel excuse of a man who doesn’t deserve the title of being called a Dom. He took away all of Peter’s rights and didn’t even extend the opportunity or courtesy of having a safeword. He was just an abuser posing as a Dom. He didn’t understand  that the first rule of being a Dom was to take care of your sub so that they can find gratification in service.

There was a thirty year age gap between Peter and Thomas, but it seemed to work for them. The 56yr old Thomas was a most experienced Dom and he inspired Peter’s implicit trust. Peter has scars that has been imprinted on his body , but most of all they are indelibly imprinted on  his soul. Master Thomas has given him a new lease on life, a chance at a rebirth through his proper submission. I give this my ratings of 4 – lose the underwear.

Favorite Quotes : 1. He put down his cup and read through the next rules. The words were beginning to slide into each other. A Dom should listen to his submissive, should love unconditionally, be mindful of a submissive’s feelings, a Dom should not intentionally harm his submissive….

With a sob he threw the list onto the floor. He grabbed a pillow and curled up around it, sobbing into it, his hot tears soaking into the brushed cotton. He cried unrestrainedly, and he knew these tears had been a long time coming. He also knew why he was crying. Pain filled him, pain at the thought of everything that bastard had put him through during the last four years. But there was sorrow too. Thomas’s rules showed him what might have been, had Curtis not gotten to him first. They hinted at a world where he would have been cherished, valued, listened to… loved. His tears fell as Peter lost track of time, finally releasing everything he’d kept bottled up tight inside for the last few years. (This was a very poignant moment, a turning point if you will. Peter’s tears were very cathartic for him and it was like a balm to his soul. It went a long way in facilitating the the healing process. )
