Assassin Shifter 6:For the love of Caden by Sandrine Gasq-Dion

Title :  For the love of  Caden        Word Count :  99pgs

Genre : Paranormal Gay Romance

Blurb : Caden Fournier has everything: Money, fame and an international business that’s skyrocketing. But the one thing he really wants, money can’t buy: Love. When fate puts him in the path of a speeding semi, Caden meets handsome paramedic Kellan Brady.

Kellan Brady has been waiting for his mate for as long as he can remember. Always wanting the fairy tale of true love, he ends up instead with an injured and angry Frenchman pinned in his BMW.

If they can get past their rocky start, can the two men build a relationship when both are hiding a secret?

My Review : From the very first moment that paramedic Kellan met his mate,  his impression  was that he was an asshole. Well, I guess that could be attributed to the fact that self made billionaire Caden Fournier was pinned in his BMW during a pileup caused by a semi and he is claustrophobic . Caden is a very surly patient and this is not elevating his personality in his mate’s eyes. Kellan is further disappointed when a woman comes to Cade’s hospital  room and he mistakenly takes her for his mate’s wife.

After six weeks,  Caden is able to move around more freely after suffering leg injuries. He is lucky to see Kellan on the streets and he tries to apologize.  After the misunderstanding of the wife is cleared up, Kellan finds out that Caden is gay and she is just an assistant. They get together for dinner  and it goes great. They are on their way to having something very special. The sexual chemistry is very intoxicating between the two and they are both able to switch it up in bed. It soon becomes clear that Caden has a simmering passion with a hint of aggression below the surface. When Caden  goes out for breakfast in the morning and meets paparazzi,  he realizes that  his lover  is famous. Caden takes it in stride and their relationship  progressed without a hitch. They are  both  falling for each other.

Their relationship  is  threatened by an old rival Carson who has been causing the pack a lot of trouble. Carson exposes Kellan as a werewolf by showing Caden a video. Even though Caden is shocked that werewolves exist , his first thought is to protect  Kellan. He decides to break off the relationship  and go back to France, not telling Kellan that he knows  his secret. Kellan is stupefied and he is in a world of emotional turmoil, because he thought their relationship  had been going so well.

Their mutual friend Taylor is the one who goes to find Caden and tried to figure out what went wrong. They expose themselves to Caden and proved to him that he knows far more werewolves than he thought.  Caden and Kellan are reunited and their love is still strong. They have to learn to be strong for each other and keep their love insulated from people who will try to tear them apart.

Wayne the most powerful alpha decides to intervene and take down Carson for good with the help of a few pack members. A fight ensues in which Caden is hurt.Wayne and Dakota both bite him to bring on the change in order to save his life since they have the strongest bloodline. It is touch and go for awhile and the wolf dominates Caden’s body. Having the wolf inside him intensified his dominant side and this is cause for some really hot sex scenes  for him and Kellan. I give this my ratings of 3 – it was ok, give it a try.

West Coast Boys 1:King of Snowflakes by Michele Fogal

Title :  King of Snowflakes             Word Count : 68,474

Genre : Contemporary Gay Romance

Blurb : Grade twelve is flying by like a pride parade of gay freedom and love until Skyler finds his gorgeous downtown boyfriend cheating on him over Christmas break. The breakup leaves him raw and not up to ignoring the usual gay taunts from soccer star Ryan and his teammates.

When Skyler loses it, he’s surprised to find a straight jock like Ryan knows what it’s like to have your heart broken and what it’s like not to belong. Behind his cocky smile, Ryan is feeling hopeless about his grades, his chances of getting into university, and his lack of real friends.

When Ryan invites him on a family ski trip, Skyler thinks escaping the city will let him lick his very private wounds in peace. He doesn’t count on Ryan’s warmth and affection amid the grandiose snow-covered mountains with their wonderland white trees, or the magical way Ryan’s silky hair fills with perfect six-point snowflakes. He certainly doesn’t expect Ryan to have secrets of his own that could burn them both–or lead to Skyler’s first truly loving relationship.

My Review : Wouldn’t  it be great if we could  all stand up to our bullies? Well Skyler sure did, after one too many jabs about him being gay. Skyler is heartbroken after breaking up with his ex for cheating on him. He already feels like the weight of the world is on  his shoulders  and he is tired of feeling downtrodden. This is probably  why when football jock Ryan starts teasing him, he flipped out and gave him the proper dressing down he deserved. Ryan becomes introspective and he is ashamed at how he has terrorized Skyler.  He gains new respect for Skyler in the way that he stood up to him. He apologized to him, stating that it wasn’t  his intention to be purposely mean or homophobic.   Skyler is very surprised when Ryan acts like they are old chums the next day at school. Ryan is persistent  and it is pretty hard for Skyler to keep on refusing Ryan’s  offer of friendship. Ryan commiserates with Skyler about their teenage  heartbreak. Ryan helps to rebuild Skyler’s self-esteem, because he feels that he was at fault for his ex-boyfriend ‘s cheating ways. Their bond is taken to another level when Ryan  convinces Skyler to go on vacation with him and his family to their ski lodge.Ryan is a sweet , caring, very obtuse individual. It takes him awhile to see that he  is falling for Skyler  and to admit that he might be gay.

It was a beautiful  journey for both Skyler and Ryan. Ryan taught Skyler how to ski,  but most of all Skyler  gained strength of will and emotional  fortitude.Skyler taught Ryan how to capture the beautiful things all around and live in the moment. Ryan wanted to be a better man for Skyler , but most of all Skyler allowed him to embrace his true self. They were very insulated  at the ski lodge, seeing as how they were separated from the outside world. The sexual chemistry  between them was a slow build and it was intensely  hot. Ryan’s family  was very accepting of Skyler and their relationship. Wish all parents could be so understanding and love their kids so unconditionally. This was a wonderful  love story that deserves my ratings of 4 – lose the underwear.

Favorite Quotes : 1.Their cocks slid together in Ryan’s well-oiled hand and Skyler gasped. It was so slick and so smooth and so hot. He gave in to it then and let his hips go, ramming down again and again. He lifted his face from Ryan’s neck and risked a peek at Ryan’s face. His eyes were closed, his eyebrows up, his lips parted. His face was wide open. Skyler came first this time, onto Ryan’s stomach, and then had a moment to worry that the sticky cum-puddle might gross Ryan out. That was settled quite definitively when Ryan smeared it on himself and came hard. (Very sensual and erotic, it doesn’t  always have to be about penetration.  Although  penetration is right up there on the totem pole 😉.)

Bear County 10: Cowboy Trouble by Lynn Hagen

Title :  Cowboy  Trouble                 Word Count :99 pgs

Genre : Contemporary Gay Romance

Blurb : Isaac Newton has been sheltered his entire life. He’s been taught that being gay is wrong, sinful, and knows that if he reveals his deepest desires, he’ll be shunned from his family. Isaac’s managed to keep his secret hidden until he meets a man who tempts him in ways that threaten his very way of life. Tanner Rexford finds Isaac fascinating. His friends rib him about how straight-laced Isaac seems to be. But T-Rex knows what he wants and goes after Isaac, unknowingly setting into motion a course that will leave them both with more than one devastating loss that will test their very beliefs. Fate seems to have it out for both men as T-Rex and Isaac try to put the pieces of their lives back together. Anything worth having is worth fighting for. T-Rex finds this out when the stakes become even higher. With family, friends, and each other, T-Rex and Isaac just might put the pieces of their lives back together and find the happiness that seems just out of reach.

My Review :  I always  wondered about  the set up of team leader  T-rex’s story. T-rex  is one of the few humans from the Executive  Bodyguards who is not a shape shifting bear. When T-rex  first sees Isaac Newton,  he is not immediately  attracted. Isaac’s family  is very  religious  and lead an Amish  lifestyle.  Isaac’s mother makes the clothes that he wears and the closest thing  they have to modern  is an old beat up rust bucket that they call a truck. When Isaac’s  truck breaks down  on the way home after leaving the grocery store,  he realizes  that  he  is totally stuck because  he knows nothing about cars. He gets lucky  when someone  stops, after splashing him on the side of the road. Isaac is very nervous when he encounters  the super hot guy he’s been eyeballing.

T-rex apologizes to the very shy Isaac and offers to take him to the mechanic. He feels  a pull towards this awkward young man and he is not sure why , but he is willing to get to know him. While they were at the mechanic T-rex  is overcome by a wave of lust and kisses Isaac by the side of the road. He takes Isaac to lunch and gets to know a little about him and his way of life. Isaac is a very sheltered young man who has lived a very insular life with his homophobic  uber- religious  parents.

When Isaac gets home his father beats him severely,  because unbeknownst  to them someone saw the mind melting kiss T-rex laid on him. Isaac’s father forbids him to go back to town. It’s been a few days and T-rex becomes very worried  when he doesn’t  see Isaac in town. He drives out to Isaac’s home and is met by Isaac’s father with a shotgun warning him off his property.  T-rex leaves peacefully. He is  very determined to go back with help to get Isaac out after talking to Sheriff Sparrow who suggests that Isaac might be T-rex’s  mate. Before T-rex can  go in with guns blazing,  Isaac’s  younger brother comes to the ranch to  tell him that their dad has severely beaten and kicked out Isaac.

T-rex is on the the brink of madness and it  takes him and his friends almost a week to find Isaac. Isaac is half starved, bruised and living under a bridge. Isaac is overwhelmed and happy when  his mate T-rex takes him home to the ranch. They are just getting  settled in when T-rex gets a call to meet up with his brother who is the VP of a notorious motorcycle gang. T-rex and his older brother have always been close and it was heart-rending when he tells him that he only has a few days to live due to a malignant tumor. T-rex decides to spend what precious little time they have together.  He was there holding his brother’s hand when  he takes his last breath. T-rex is devastated and all he can think about is getting home to his mate.

It is definitely  a double blow when he finds out that while he was taking care of his brother Shott had to rush Isaac to the hospital where he found out that he was pregnant and was having a miscarriage. T-rex is devastated and wished that he could have done more to protect his  mate from heartbreak. Due to the trauma that his body withstood from his father’s  beating, Isaac will never be able to carry a baby successfully. T-rex and Isaac grieve for the future children that they would never have.

They say everything  happens for a reason and that  was  proven for Isaac and T-rex. It so happens that T-rex’s brother left a  will naming him as the sole guardian over his 6 month old nephew MJ. It was such a joyous moment  to see their reaction to the revelation of the beautiful baby boy. MJ was the blessing  and the healing balm that both their souls needed. It was awesome and extremely funny watching them navigate the diaper situation on their journey back home. This was one of my favorite of the series and one of the most emotional . I loved the connection between Isaac and T-rex . I give this my ratings of 4 – lose the underwear.

Lucky Seven by E. L. Esch

Title: Lucky Seven               Word Count : 56,352

Genre : Contemporary Gay Romance

Blurb : Dante Mathers, college student, fifth year, has a track record for being dishonest with himself, and is about to undergo the biggest, scariest change of his life.

Dante’s forced himself to go out with girls in the past and he does it again when he’s approached by the beautiful Serena one day on campus, desperate to prove to himself that he’s “normal.” But when he loses a drinking contest and is dared to go to the next campus GLBT meeting by his best friend, he’s not sure how to handle it. Sure, he could blow it off and say he went, but something nagging at the back of his mind compels him to go anyway. After all, he’s had problems with intimacy in the past and his first crush was a boy in high school. But is he really forcing himself to go, or is he finally starting to be honest with himself? No need to overthink this, Dante tells himself. It’ll be get in, get out. No need to talk to anyone. Easy, right?

But then he meets Sven. Sexy, toned, wearing a leather jacket with spiked up bleach-blond hair, Sven’s bad-boy flare sticks out on campus and catches Dante’s eye. But there’s more to Sven than his punkish looks, and Dante’s about to find out all the sultry little details.

My Review : This was a sweet romance.  It is always refreshing to indulge in young love, watching them bumbling about is a joy. Dante has always questioned his sexuality in the deep recesses of his mind. He is a virgin who finds girls pretty, but  has never really been attracted to them. The first time he sees Serena,  he is spellbound by her ethereal beauty. They go on one date and even though he is shy , he finds her easy to talk to. His best friend Greg dares him to go to a LGBTQ  meeting after losing a bet. He is a little surprised to see how chilled the group is and he feels a bit guilty for going under false pretenses or is he? He leaves the meeting feeling even more confused than when he went in.

Dante  is wandering around in the cafeteria one night when one of the LGBTQ members James , introduces him to Sven. Sven  is painfully shy and not very good at meeting new people. Dante doesn’t think anymore about Sven until he sees him one morning all beaten up and bruised on his front lawn. He helps Sven inside and tends to his wounds. They talk for a bit and Dante realize how easygoing Sven seems.

When his best friend Greg  questions his sexuality after seeing him with Sven and reveals that Sven is a known cross dresser, Dante is shocked. He sees it for himself when he finds Serena all beaten up behind the bleachers at the track. It is obvious that Sven and Serena is one and the same. Sven is extremely embarrassed and explains that because of his shyness,  cross dressing is the only way he feels comfortable meeting new people.

Dante admits to himself and Sven that he is attracted to him. Their relationship develops beautifully and they have lots of fun hanging out and exploring with each other. It soon becomes clear that Sven is very important to Dante. They share their lives and issues together and continue to encourage each other to be better men. Dante  has to come out to his family and it was a happily ever after all around as they accepted him with open arms. The sexual chemistry between these two was sensual, lighthearted and fun. I give this my ratings of 4 – lose the underwear.

Going the Distance by John Goode

Title :  Going the Distance                 Word Count : 81,982

Genre : Contemporary Gay Romance / Young Adult

Blurb : Looking like the perfect all-American boy—tall, handsome, and athletic—makes it easy for Danny Monroe to blend in with the in-crowd of a new high school. It’s a trick he picked up moving with his father from one Marine base to the next. When you aren’t going to be around long, it’s better to give people what they want. And what they want are his quick hands and fast feet on the basketball court.

On court, he can be himself and ignore certain strange developing urges. Everyone knows you can’t like boys and be a jock, but for Danny his growing attraction is becoming overwhelming. At the thought of losing the only thing that matters, Danny starts to panic and realizes he has a choice to make: happiness or basketball.

My Review :  It must be extremely  hard to try to outrun yourself,  it’s virtually impossible. Army brat  Danny  has first hand experience of this, since the first time he was caught fooling around with his friend at a sleepover and the friend hung him out to dry. His father was exceptionally dissapointed  in him and threatened to send him away. Danny promised his dad that it would  never happen again and suppressed any desires or questions  he ever had about his sexuality.  This holds true until he meets Cody Franks, one of the guys on his basketball team,  an all around  good  guy. Cody and Danny forms a bond where they become the best of friends,  but there is a doorway that is opened in their relationship  that could lead to some thought provoking questions. After a team member sees them kissing on the court one night, Danny pushes Cody away, shuts him out and stops being friends with him. Danny didn’t even get to say goodbye or apologize  when he heard that Cody was moving away.

Danny is devastated but he does nothing more than push his true self further away. The more you deny your true self is the more you lose the most important  part of yourself. Danny decides the best way to lose himself is to do it through something that he loves and is good at, basketball. This works for all of two minutes, until he starts changing into an unrecognizable  bitter team captain who has isolated and backed himself into a very  far corner.

After getting dressed down by his coach after a lost game due to his inflated ego, Danny gets into a horrible  car accident. After having an out of body near death experience,  Danny sees himself for what he truly is. It takes his accident for him to finally face up to the truth, that he just might be gay. He has to come to realize  that  he is lucky to be alive and he  needs to stop using other people as a way to hide and deny his sexuality. He faces a constant  battle with his sexuality. His friend  Nate helps him to cope after his accident. Nate accepts that his friend is possibly gay, but Danny refuses to acknowledge  the truth of his desires.

This novel truly resonates with me because it touches on the many facets of life. This is a true coming of age story that talks about love, heartbreak, disappointments, faith, perseverance and throughout  it all fear. Danny gets a lot of things wrong along the way, but that just makes him a teenager and human. It takes a lot of soul searching  and Cody reappearing for Danny to gain forgiveness for his harsh treatment . He has to learn to love himself first and foremost  before he can find love. In my estimation  this novel was definitely a journey. It shows the struggles that many gay or questioning athletes feel that they need to go through to prove themselves to the world. Danny’s journey leaves us on a cliffhanger  with many unanswered questions. I give this my ratings of 3- it was ok, give it a try.  I was left unfulfilled and yearning to  see where Danny would end up.

Favorite Quotes : 1. “If we are servants of God, and I mean true servants and not just in name, then we have an obligation to love everyone in the name of the Lord. Not just the people we agree with and not just the things we can understand, but everything. Saint Augustine said it best when he wrote ‘Cum dilectione huminum et odio vitiorum.’ It translates as ‘With love for mankind and hatred of sins,’ but nowadays we just say love the sinner, but hate the sin. And though it is true we must love the sinner, I think Augustine got it right the first time. With love for mankind. That is the point, for all of mankind. Not the white folks or the straight ones or the nice ones, for all mankind. ( If we all lived our life by these dictates, the world  would be a  far better place.)

2. You think the answer is hating them? You’re wrong, dead wrong. And I assure you, if you think the fact you are here, dressed up on a Sunday, is a golden ticket to heaven, it isn’t. You want to quote Corinthians and tell me that the sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, or men who practice homosexuality will not inherit the kingdom of God, then be sure to finish the quote with thieves, greedy people, drunks, revilers, and swindlers too. You think having money and wanting more is good? Not according to that quote. You want to think getting the best out of a deal is good, you’re better off finding another passage to defend it.” (People are always quick to throw stones in a glass house, rather than see the sins and wrongs that they  have committed. )

Assassin 3: Sins of the Father by Fyn Alexander

Title : Sins of the Father                Word Count :77,949

Genre : Contemporary Gay Romance

Blurb : MI6 assassin, Kael Saunders, is a larger than life, dominant master who finds himself becoming a Daddy to nineteen-year-old Angel Button. Over the last year and a half Kael and Angel have settled into a loving Dom/sub relationship. But no matter how comfortable the highly intelligent and ruthless assassin and his sweet, eager, loving boy become with each other, Kael is still the boss and Angel wants him to remain so, whether in the dungeon, the bedroom, or the kitchen. Naturally submissive, Angel has learned how to be a good Daddy’s boy and a good slave, but his childlike willfulness still makes itself known now and again.

When Angel is kidnapped by an enemy of Kael’s, he’ll stop at nothing to save his boy, but his boy may have to take what he’s learned and help him.

My Review : Kael and Angel are back again, only this time the mood is a little different.  Kael has to deal with  a recalcitrant young man when he doesn’t get his own way. Angel wants to take a year off before going to university and Kael believes he knows what’s best for his boy. Kael’s boss Conran has suggested that Angel go into the service seeing as how his training  is so precise after being trained by Kael who is the best. Kael wants something totally different and better for his boy. He does not condone Angel becoming an assassin. Kael would much rather Angel go to Cambridge University and get a history degree,  but Angel feels like he can’t measure up to Kael’s esteem.

In a pique of anger, Angel runs away from his ‘Daddy’ rather than stay and be disciplined. He gets himself in serious trouble when he gets drunk and drugged in a bar. Daddy Kael is just in time to stop Angel from being raped by a man  in his fifties. Angel is very sick when he comes home and Kael takes care of him, but he is not happy about it. Angel is still being rebellious and he feels adrift on a sea of unsurity and helplessness. Kael not knowing what else to do , locks him in the cage.

Kael needs to realign his expectations for Angel and that pisses him off. Angel has always been a great sub, but at the end of the day he is still just a teenager with all these adult expectations foisted upon him. Kael learns that he can’t always control everything and Conran actually imparts some useful advice. Kael rewards Conran with a flogging and a good hard fuck with a dildo. Angel apologizes to his daddy and Kael takes him to the dungeon and uses the cane on him while he is hanging upside down  with a hood over his head. Kael knows that above all else , Angel hates the hood and that makes it a true punishment especially when he sticks a piece of gingeroot in his most sensitive place. I found this to be truly archaic,  even for Kael.

Life goes back to normal for them , but when old ghosts and secrets from Kael’s past come back to haunt him, his life is in uproar. For the first time ever, Kael gets so angry at Angel and slaps him for disclosing some parts of Kael’s past that has the potential to hurt Kael’s mom. There is one thing that is clear throughout this series, there is only two people that Kael loves above all else and that’s his mom and Angel. Angel is ashamed for disappointing his daddy, and Kael is devastated that he actually hurt Angel physically outside of their consensual meetings in the dungeon.

This incident was truly an eye opener for Kael when his mother pointed out how scared Angel is in his presence sometimes.  Kael realized for the first time that his rigidity is very off putting and causes a barrier in his relationship with Angel. He starts to understand that loosening the reins could go a far way in curbing some of Angel’s rebellious ways. Kael questions his methods and sees that he is probably stifling Angel’s  youthful exuberance in his quest for training the perfect ‘boy’. Kael apologized and treated Angel like the precious boy that he is and gives some leeway for spontaneity.  This results in a hot lovemaking session where Angel rocks his world with a ride of his life. The sexual chemistry is out of this world between these two, the sex is better than ever.

Angel schooled his daddy in how to live in the moment and just have fun, even when in his dungeon. Lots of love, discipline and a bit of leniency brought out the best in Angel. He made Kael proud by getting into Cambridge University  and Kael allows Angel the freedom to take a year off to train as an agent. Kael has really mellowed out under Angel’s tutelage in how to be more human. Kael has become a better daddy and he now proudly embraces his feelings for his boy and shows his love unrestrainedly. I give this my ratings of 5 – bring out the vibrators. Another great addition to the series,  I am never bored or dissapointed to hear about these two. Kudos to Fyn Alexander for keeping it fresh, interesting and sexy all the time.

Indiscreet 5: Gary’s Choice by A.C . Katt

Title : Gary’s Choice                  Word Count :55,000

Genre : Contemporary Gay Romance

Blurb : Can someone that suffered when he came out go back in the closet for love? Should he have to?

Danny, a house sub at Indiscreet, loves Gary, a former major league pitcher. Gary wants a contract but he’s still bound by his agreement with his manager which forbids him from coming out.

Danny and Gary, with the help of their friends at Indiscreet, find a middle ground and sign a contract. But will it be enough?

My Review : So far, we’ve met quite a few different Doms from different stations in life with different requests and protocols specific to their subs. Gary is a professional baseball player who was introduced briefly in book 3 where he attempted to get a contract from Greg and was outbid by Dom de Loria. House sub Danny is totally in love with Gary and would love to get a contract from him. Gary proposes a contract, the only stipulation is that it has to remain a secret. Being a a professional baseball player is definitely not conducive to their lifestyle. As much as Danny has gotten under his skin, he can’t be out due to it being a breach of his professional contracts.

It doesn’t take long for Gary to fall under Danny’s spell. He soon realizes that he will brave coming out of the closet to have someone sweet like Danny in his life forever. Gary sees that he can’t abide the stipulations of secrecy set in their contract. He hires a team of lawyer and agent to fine tune his professional contracts,  so that he won’t lose his endorsements and can continue with his life with Danny with pride. He comes out for Danny on national TV and he proudly announces to all that Danny is his after Danny’s brother Caden gives his approval. Gary has enemies that would like to keep him in the closet and under their thumb. They are easily vanquished with the help of the ‘family’ which includes all the Doms and the omnipresent subs who knows and sees all. Danny and Gary has a beautiful wedding and collaring ceremony with everybody in attendance. As  bear said “all us kinky bastards have to stay together”. I give this my ratings of 3 – it was ok, give it a try.
