Hedgehog’s Delight ( Wolf Creek 3 ) by Jade Buchanan

Title : Hedgehog’s Delight ( Wolf Creek 3 )                      Word Count :18,000

Genre : Paranormal Gay Romance

Blurb :Rick Black has been putting off the inevitable for weeks ever since he smelled his mate in a local coffee shop. He’s been waiting for the right moment, but everywhere he turns the little hedgehog shows up, and Rick is past ready to lay a claim on his prickly mate.

Ethan Abbott is on the run from an ex-boyfriend who can’t seem to catch a hint. For the first time in years he’s in control of his future. So, when he’s informed he’s the mate of a big, bad werewolf with Alpha issues, he’s not sure he’s ready. He sure is looking forward to the adventure, though.

My Review : Finally, Rick gets a taste of his own medicine. He has been playing matchmaker, hooking up his family members with their mates. Well, it’s his turn at the wheel now and he is hooked up with none other than a prickly, crazy, hilariously funny hedgehog. His first time officially meeting his mate and Ethan tases and shoots Rick with a dart gun thinking that he is a psycho stalker. From that very moment, Rick realizes that he is gonna have is hands full. But oh what a sexy handful it will be. Rick and Ethan are immediately drawn to each other. Even though Rick does not understand half of the references Ethan makes, he knows he will have fun with his mate. I am very happy found his mate and that things worked out well. Another great addition to the series. I give this one my ratings of 4 – lose the underwear.

Favorite Quotes : 1. “Listen, you must be starving. I know I could eat the crotch of a low flying duck right now.” (Ethan’s way of saying he’s hungry. What a strange duck? Oops😉hedgehog. )

2. “Are we having a party? You want I should put my glory hole manties on?” “Glory hole manties. Crotchless panties. But they’re real masculine. No homo.” – (Ethan says this to Rick. Who knew such a thing existed? 😀Hilarious)

3. “Yeah, but I don’t really want to start throwing loonies and toonies and I’m too cheap to put a fiver in your drawers. You’ll have to do something spectacular for that.”-( Ethan says this to Rick during foreplay. Gotta love being Canadian,  can’t even get a cheap lap dance cause we don’t have 1 dollar bills, we have coins which are called loonies. Anyways, I am proud to be Canadian ☺.)

Duck Fart (Wolf Creek 2) by Jade Buchanan

Title : Duck Fart (Wolf Creek 2)                      Word Count :40,182

Genre : Paranormal Gay Romance

Blurb : Keith Malone is incredibly content. He loves coming around Wolf Creek… great food, great company, and a decent place to rest his soul when he needs it. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that his cousins let him dust off his carpenter skills with the odd job here and there.

Bailey Mitchell is incredibly nervous. He’s come all this way to Campbell River, following up on a chance encounter that happened months earlier, and now he doesn’t know what to do. One glance and it’s obvious Adam’s already taken. What’s a lonely Siamese shifter to do?

Drake McKale is incredibly grouchy. He’s sick and tired of every shifter he’s run across making fun of him. Hey, duck’s have feelings too! So what if he’s smaller than everyone else? Spoiling for a fight he can actually win, he decides to pick on the shy, little kitty in the corner. Only, Drake never reckoned the diminutive cat would proposition him. Or that the big human in the corner would want in on the action.

One part burly human, one part shy Siamese shifter and one part twinky (and kinky) duck shifter… layer together and enjoy!

My Review : After seeing the man, who he has a crush on snuggled up to a wolf , Bailey is feeling very dejected. He notices Keith and starts up a conversation with him to get his mind off of Adam. He starts telling Keith about the nice meals he could prepare for him , including his special duck bone in and that’s where they are introduced to mallard duck shifter Drake who is rather incensed about their meal plan.

Adam finally notices Bailey and comes over to see what he is doing in town. Drake realizes how sad and small Bailey is feeling and comes to his rescue by bragging to Adam that he is there to be with Drake. Drake convinces Bailey to go home with him to explore the spark they feel. Once they are there Bailey sees a cock cage that he wants to try. Only after it is on , Drake realizes he can’t find the key. Drake ends up calling for help while Bailey is freaking out. Damn hilarious, these two just can’t stay out of trouble. The cavalry is none other than Keith the  carpenter who they met at the bar. He comes with bolt cutters and gets Bailey free from the cock cage.

The sparks is off the chain with all these three guys and Drake realizes that they are both his mates. They move the party over to Keith’s house and oh does it get even hotter. The sex scenes were totally hottt and Keith can’t seem to get enough of these troublemakers.

My heart goes out to the duck Drake , he puts up a facade but he is really very insecure about people leaving him . After their two wonderful nights, he hightails it out of there even though he knows they are his mates. He is so afraid of their rejection. On the other hand, poor Bailey is so clueless, he is a siamese cat but his nose doesn’t pick up that these two guys are his mates. He is so confused,  he thinks he is in love with Adam but he misses the two guys he slept with. Keith is human and has no extra senses when it comes to his mates, but once he is enlightened of the fact, he hangs on for dear life. He has watched the bond between his parents and their mates and knows how beautiful and precious their love is. He has always wanted that for himself and goes in search of his mates. He is the strength, the alpha of the three and he takes control of the situation by telling them nobody is going anywhere. That’s exactly what they crave, someone to dominate them and Keith is oh so hot. I loved this threesome , they were perfect. This was a very cute story, I give this my ratings of 4 – lose the underwear.

Favorite Quotes : 1. “Uh…I want you to put your alligator in my love tunnel?”    – (Bailey’s idea of dirty talk :).

Wolf Creek 1: Black Wolf by Jade Buchanan

Title : Wolf Creek 1: Black Wolf                                Word Count : 63 pgs

 Genre : Paranormal Gay Romance

Blurb : Adam Bates is in trouble. He’s virtually penniless, is being threatened by his landlord, and now he’s late for work at his new job. Expecting to be chastened by his boss, Adam doesn’t expect to be provided with a protector instead. He definitely doesn’t expect his minder to be a big, bad wolf with attitude.

Marcus Black has just arrived back home, but he won’t refuse his brother when he asks him to help a little tabby cat. When Adam is threatened by his landlord in front of Marcus, his alpha wolf won’t let him stand by and let it happen.

Adam is about to find strength in submission, and his own set of claws. Marcus is about to find the mate he’s been searching for in a deceptively small tabby. Let the games begin…

My Review : When wolf shifter Marcus meets the little tabby cat Adam,  he has been beaten severely by a human. Marcus is furious and devastated because he recognises Adam as his mate. He tries to leash his temper and he jumps right in and start taking care of his mate  showing him how special he is right from the get go.

Adam is a sweet adorable virgin. He is such a pure hearted, innocent guy. He doesn’t even swear, his favorite words are ‘frog legs’ which he uses synonymous to ‘shit’. Marcus makes it his personal mission to eradicate those words out of Adam’s vocabulary. He wants to dirty him up a little.

The sex between these two is extremely hot. Marcus is very dominant and he pushes Adam to revel in his dominance and allow him to take care of all his needs. He also gives Adam the chance to stand up for himself so he doesn’t feel so beaten down and downtrodden by others, while at the same time defining who is boss in their relationship.  It was really fun to watch the dynamics between them. Marcus was very crude while Adam was so shy. They really complemented each othe. This was a very cutesy, funny story, very hot sex. I loved it all the way through. I give this one my ratings of 4 – lose the underwear. It was really too short though.

Favorite Quotes: 1. “I’m a big man. You don’t want to choke, so it’s a good idea to learn how to relax your throat now.”   ( Marcus says this to Adam while he is drinking a concoction called  Black Wolf, lol ;).

2.“Sometimes you have to lose control to gain it. Fight me, hit me, bite me. Do whatever you want, anything you wanted to do to him. You can’t hurt me.”  (This was Marcus’ way of giving some sort of power back to Adam).

3.“I’m going to dirty up that pretty mouth of yours, baby. I’ll have you saying the naughtiest things before we’re done here. That’s a promise.”  (Marcus trying to get Adam to say something other than ‘frog legs ‘. )

Swan Song for an Ugly Duckling by Michael Murphy

Title : Swan Song for an Ugly Duckling                             Word Count :71997         Genre : Contemporary Gay Romance

Blurb :Aaron and Josh come from extraordinarily different backgrounds in small town America. Aaron is the only child of a fundamentalist preacher who fears and condemns the ways of the world outside their community. Josh is a jock who can only seem to express the feelings Aaron stirs in him by tormenting Aaron about how he looks and dresses. But one day, Josh’s world is turned upside down by a simple sentence spoken by Aaron, and he decides to get closer to Aaron.

Aaron assumes it is a new form of torture, but Josh persists: first a ride home, then talking with Aaron while he does his afternoon farm chores. Then Josh persuades Aaron’s father to let him participate in a scholastic event out of town one weekend. Josh pays a huge price for Aaron to attend, but that one weekend persuades Aaron to get free of his parents and attend college.

College doesn’t solve all their problems, though. Josh is horrified when a senior on campus seduces Aaron. He can’t believe Aaron has always been gay and he missed it—and missed getting to be Aaron’s first. But when Aaron finds out his boyfriend isn’t faithful, things go from tense to worse.

My Review : It is certainly a shame when something as simple as a shower is a luxury for a teenager.  Aaron grew up without all the simple amenities due to him living in an Amish community. He was constantly bullied and teased for being different. Although his body was physically imposing, he was seen as a backwards hick, regardless of the fact that he was smarter than most of the people in his school. Not only did Aaron get humiliated by the jocks at school,  he also had to put up with  his father belittling , verbally and physically abusing him.

All the years of torment have finally taking its toll on Aaron. More and more each day he wishes he had a regular teenage life. He wants to be able to afford the privilege of getting out of his closed off town to go to college. Anything really, just as long as he is out from  under his father’s thumb and doesn’t have to take over the leadership of his community that is stifling. Aaron realizes that he has same sex tendencies and he tries to bury these feelings deep down within himself. He wants more out of life than being a farmer.

One day he gets the courage to speak up against his main tormentor who is a popular jock  named Josh.Josh acknowledges and apologizes to Aaron for all the hurt and pain he has caused him over the years. He tries really hard to get to know Aaron, but Aaron is weary and suspicious of his motives. Once Josh starts getting some insight in the type of life that is forced on Aaron he feels a sense of empathy and he is truly confused at how a teenager can function without all the simple modern technologies that everyday kids take for granted. As they grow closer, Josh exposes Aaron to his way of life and introduces him to television shows such as Glee and gives him a makeover. It is a real eye-opener for Aaron to see gay relationships flourishing in the outside world. Josh realizes how sweet of a person and how truly innocent Aaron seems to be.

The physical abuse gets really bad for Aaron at home and when Josh gets a glimpse of what was done to him, he gets the authorities involved.  Josh’ parents pushes Aaron to become an emancipated minor and live with them. Josh and Aaron’s bond becomes stronger and Josh motivates and pushes Aaron to his full potential in all aspects of his life. Aaron grows to be a more rounded teenager and a far greater student.

Before you know it, Josh and Aaron both start college where they share a dorm room. This is where it gets a bit dicey for me, they are still hiding the fact that they are both gay and that they really like each other. I thought this stretched on a little too long. Up to this point there is still no sex and it’s about 85% through the book already. Some unnecessary drama is thrown in and Josh and Aaron are mad at each other  and distant. After seeing Aaron with another man, Josh bites the bullet and tells Aaron how much he is in love with him. Aaron is still doubting his position in the world, because there is still so much he doesn’t understand about social situations.

When they go on Christmas break , this is where they finally clear up their misunderstandings and explore the sexual side of their relationship. The sex in this book was very minimal and definitely not overt, so I had to be reading through the lines. I am a fan of Michael Murphy and the content was interesting,  I am just disappointed in the lack of sex. This gets my ratings of 3- it was ok, give it a try.

Chasing the Dragon by Kate Sherwood

Title : Chasing the Dragon                                 Word Count :78,272

Genre : Contemporary Gay Romance

Blurb :When mercenary Jack Hunter stumbles upon Christian Manning servicing a client in a back alley, it stirs feelings he’s kept deeply buried. Hunter becomes Christian’s knight in shining armor when he rescues him from an attack and takes him to his secluded cabin to heal.

Being stuck in the cabin over the winter gives both men a chance to get their lives in order. Christian is struggling to break his heroin addiction, and Hunter needs to get away from the organization he helped start years before—a group of people who don’t appreciate being told no. It’s a toss-up which goal is more difficult. Their new starts spark a relationship between them, but nothing good comes cheap. Despite the complications, Hunter wants more, but Christian is resistant to making that commitment. When Hunter’s private security company threatens them, only nurturing the fragile trust they formed at the beginning of their love affair will save them. But for two men with very dark pasts, relying on each other might be easier said than done.

My Review : The first night Hunter meets Christian Manning,  he is on his knees sucking off a john. Something about the sight of Christian’s mouth being pummeled by the stranger tugs at him. Hunter doesn’t think it’s arousal because he is straight,  or so he thinks. The john stiffs Christian the money that was agreed upon and tries to get rough with him. Although Hunter tries to stay out of it, he doesn’t want to see Christian get hurt, so he scares away the guy. After Christian offers his sexual services to Hunter which he denies, they go their separate ways.

Hunter  can’t stop thinking about Christian so he goes to the bar across from the hotel where the kid works. After a few hours of waiting he sees Christian being pulled into a car and he drives up to rescue him.Hunter whisks Christian away to his remote cabin by offering him a job renovating. While on the way Hunter realizes not only is Christian a prostitute, he is also a heroin junkie. He devises a plan with a doctor to help Christian detox and kick the habit. Hunter helps Christian through puking, cold sweat and irritability. After a few weeks he prods Christian to start exercising and walking with him.

Slowly but surely Christian gets stronger and start helping out around the cabin by cooking and renovating.  Eventually, the physical side of their workouts brings life to another form of workout and the attraction between these two men gets really intense. They can’t keep their hands off each other and Hunter really likes exploring and learning about sex with another man. Hunter finds himself falling really hard for Christian but Christian is quite adamant that they are fuck buddies. Christian tries hard to push Hunter away and commits the ultimate sin which tears Hunter’s world apart. Hunter is left totally devastated and broken hearted. My heart broke in two for the hurt and betrayal that Hunter had to go through because of Christian. He committed a despicable , unforgivable act.

After three years of being apart,  we are reintroduced to Christian who has a job interview with the mercenary company that Hunter belonged to. He goes through the rigmarole of training and boot camp successfully,  but what he doesn’t realize is that the board of directors are just using him as a way to get Hunter to comply with their demands. Christian and Hunter’s first meeting is heartbreaking,  so much time wasted because of stupid mistakes and lack of trust in a love that was real. Hunter is grumpy and sullen to Christian at first but they both have to put their differences aside and band together so that they can work against the company to stay alive. It doesn’t take Hunter very long to know that he is still in love with Christian,  and for Christian after being three years clean, he finally believes that he deserves something pure and good in his life. That would have been all well and good if they didn’t keep dancing around each other scared of their feelings for each other or lack thereof.

This book was an uphill battle in the romance department right until the end. It wasn’t the typical happily ever after where there is conflict, resolution and then undying love. It was more of: conflict, we meet again, talk through our problems,  we love each other but we are still insecure in our love. I kinda liked it though and I guess it works because really who has that perfect happily ever after in real life? I know I sure as hell don’t.  Relationships take lots of work and I guess this is what Kate Sherwood brought out in these two characters. I give this my ratings of 3- it was ok, give it a try.

Foster Siblings 3: Brokedown Hearts by Cameron Dane

Title : Foster Siblings 3: Brokedown Hearts                   Word Count : 128,316

Genre : Contemporary Gay Romance

Blurb : Ex-con David Joyner returns home knowing he must atone for his past sins. Working at an animal shelter, David keeps his head down, desperate to prove to a hostile town he’s a new man. The one time David looks up, he spots fellow motel dweller Ben, and is terrified by his attraction to the man. David doesn’t want to feel anything. He can only damage what he loves.

On a forced vacation, PI Ben Evans accepts a job to tail a recently released prisoner. What begins as an easy gig turns complicated when Ben, a controlled man, can’t deny the pang of empathy he feels for his subject, David. Ben can’t suppress his aggressive sexual desires whenever he’s near David either.

Repeatedly crossing paths, David and Ben do their best to fight their growing attraction. When passion explodes, and secrets are revealed, both men have to conquer inner demons in order to accept the others love.

Someone has turned the tables on David, though, stalking him and leaving threatening notes. Will anyone believe David if he tells? And when David’s stalker raises the stakes, can Ben find the man who has become his world in time to save their love?

My Review : It is very sad when total strangers treat you kinder than your own family. This is what we see from the beginning happening to David, his family treats him with a level of contempt that nobody should have to endure. David is trying to put the pieces of his life in some semblance of order after spending some time in prison for stalking his boyfriend.  He has learned the error of his ways and trained his misguided heart away from his former boyfriend  through therapy. He decides to move on with his life in his quiet hometown. His brothers let him know how disgusted they are with his sexual preference and how unforgiving his transgressions are against their family name. David realizes that he  is pretty much on his own in a town that depises him for his past wrongs. He is shunned, laughed at and tormented by the  people in the town.

It was very hard for me to reconcile this new rehabilitated David to the psycho that he appeared to be in book one A Fostered Love. In the previous book he had kidnapped and held at gunpoint his former lover Christian and assaulted Christian’s boyfriend Jonah. Upon his release from prison, Jonah tasks PI Ben Evans to tail David in order to ensure that he is not after Christian again. As soon as Ben meets David, he sees something in him that he can’t resist. He sees David as a sweet , lost soul who is trying to find his footing  and overcome the stain of previous unfortunate events that led to his downward spiral which caused his imprisonment.

The attraction between these two blossomed and spiraled into something uncontrollable and all consuming.  David was so scared of relapsing to his stalking tendencies and he tries to put some distance between himself and Ben,  so that he could tame his desires. However, that’s not necessary because the passion that David feels is very intense and for once the same obsessive fixation is returned by Ben.

At first, I really wished that  Ms. Dane had not made David the main character in this one, but I guess this is her way of showing us that everyone deserves a second chance. Ben needed someone like David in his life. Ben strips David bare and forces him to face his past, present and future. He opens him up layer by layer and dominates ever part of his being. Ben pushes David to give that part of himself that he is trying to keep in check so as not to trigger his obsessive tendencies. Ben needs it all from David,  that dependence that feeds his overly dominant personality that he has suppressed in all his past relationships.

The sex between Ben and David was off the charts, it was sexy, hot and sultry. Ben was a very demanding,  dominant lover and he always pushed David to the breaking point. At times he would take him with an animalistic ferocity. Now that’s the kinda sex I like, I love that friction burn, the one that leaves you walking funny for days ;). Ben was scared that he was pushing David too far in uncharted territory, but David was able to handle all that he dished out and then some.

I was so happy that Ms Dane was able to put together such a beautiful story with these two flawed characters. Actually , they were perfect, lovable characters despite all their imperfections. I swear these two characters were borderline psychotic, but what the heck we are all a little bit crazy anyway. They both trusted each other to make the  best possible decisions for their life and bond to flourish.I loved them together.Ms Dane has a way with words that’s very visceral and she certainly ticked all my happy buttons. This one gets my ratings of 5 – bring out the vibrators. You’ll definitely need it.

Nothing Special by Jay Northcote

Title : Nothing Special                                                 Word Count : 43,453

Genre : Contemporary Gay Romance

Blurb : Noah thinks he’s nothing special. Average height, a bit on the skinny side, and cute but rather geeky, he’s relentlessly ordinary. He certainly doesn’t expect to be noticed by Sol, the gorgeous dark-haired stranger Noah sees on his commute home most days. But when Noah’s friend, Dom, persuades Noah to take a huge risk in a bid to get Sol’s attention, things turn out better than Noah dared to hope. Noah and Sol start dating, and much to Noah’s surprise, his feelings seem to be reciprocated.

But Noah’s insecurities make him doubt Sol. He doesn’t believe he’s interesting enough or sexy enough to hold Sol’s attention, and as Sol tries to get closer, Noah’s instinct is to pull away to protect himself. If their relationship is going to survive, Sol needs to convince Noah that he sees Noah very differently than Noah sees himself. Because to Sol, Noah is something very special indeed.

My Review : Noah is a shy quiet guy who takes the  train every morning and evening at the same time. He has a crush on a dark handsome stranger who takes the same train everyday as well. He is prodded by his best friend to place an ad in the paper and bare his soul and take a chance on this stranger by asking him out. Sol is very interested in Noah as well and readily accepts his invitation for a date. The date goes well from start to finish and they end the night with a sleepover.

Although Noah is concious about his skinnier build Sol cherishes and worships his body all night long. There are sparks between these two and they burn up the sheets. Sol is quite the vocal bed partner and very adept at dirty talk. Sol is as hot as the sun, I wish I had one of him in my bed ;). He masturbates right there in bed with Noah watching , showing Noah what he likes. There is just something so sexy about someone exploring their body and pleasuring themselves while another person watches. It is so intimate, but hey I’m voyeuristic by nature ;). Noah can’t resist and finds himself joining in  before he knows it.

The sex scenes were very raw and I really enjoyed that. The author’s words were not cloaked in euphemisms or packaged with a bow. I really felt connected to these scenes, because this is the way I would talk during sex, it was very believable.

This is the first date that never ends, but those are the best kinds. It felt like a whirlwind of a romance, it was very fast paced, feelings developed quickly but it was very sincere. I really do believe that when you find that special someone who you click with , you should grab it and hold on with all your might. It is a very special feeling and only those two people will truly know what’s in their hearts and if it’s real. One of my favorite quotes is from Dom , Noah’s best friend: “if it’s right, there’s no such thing as too soon.” This was a very sweet endearing tale with two uncomplicated characters who show that not every relationship has to go through a lot of drama. This gets my ratings of 4 – lose the underwear.
